Organic Reach

The number of people who see your content without paid promotion. Facebook and Instagram have significantly reduced organic reach — making scheduling and quality content critical.

What is Organic Reach?

Organic reach is the total number of unique people who saw your content through unpaid distribution — meaning the platform showed it to them naturally, without you paying for ads.

The Decline of Organic Reach

Facebook page organic reach has declined from ~16% in 2012 to under 2% today. This means if you have 10,000 followers, fewer than 200 will see any given post without promotion. Instagram and TikTok have better organic reach, but it's still declining.

How to Maximise Organic Reach

  • Post at peak times for your Malaysian audience (12–2pm, 8–11pm)
  • Use Reels/short video — platforms prioritise video over static images
  • Encourage saves and shares — they signal high value to algorithms
  • Engage with comments quickly — early engagement boosts distribution
  • Use relevant hashtags — especially local Malaysian tags
